Project Overview

26to26 is a transparency experiment—documenting every decision, challenge, and iteration of rebuilding shikadigital.co.jp in real-time over 26 days.

The project serves dual purposes: accountability for completing the rebuild, and educational content for developers interested in modern web development practices.

Each day features detailed technical writing covering architecture decisions, design system implementation, testing strategies, and deployment workflows.

Scope

  • Daily progress documentation with technical deep-dives
  • Modern Astro 5.x architecture with SSR
  • Terminal-inspired design theme
  • Responsive, accessible documentation layout
  • Automated deployment pipeline

The Challenge

  • Building in public requires vulnerability—sharing not just successes but also mistakes, dead ends, and pivots.
  • Maintaining consistent documentation quality while simultaneously executing the actual build work.
  • Creating content that serves both as a personal log and useful reference for other developers.

Constraints & Context

  • The site needed to be built quickly to not distract from the main rebuild project.
  • Design should complement the terminal/code aesthetic without overshadowing the content.
  • Navigation must make it easy to follow the chronological journey or jump to specific days.

Our Approach

  1. Built with Astro 5.x for fast static site generation with excellent developer experience.

  2. Implemented Tailwind CSS 4.x with a dark, terminal-inspired color palette.

  3. Created a simple but effective navigation system with day-by-day progression.

  4. Deployed on Vercel with automatic deployments on every push.

  5. Structured content as markdown files for easy writing and version control.
